What is the USPS Integrated Technology Promotion?

This promotion replaces the previous Emerging Advanced Technology program and focuses on encouraging mailers to incorporate digital technologies to increase the value and engagement of direct mail. By leveraging tools like artificial intelligence (AI), near field communications (NFC), augmented reality (AR), voice assistants, and more, you can create memorable customer experiences that bridge offline and online marketing channels. Eligible campaigns receive a 3% postage discount. You will also have the option to layer on the 2025 Informed Delivery add on promotion and/or the 2025 Sustainability add on promotion to receive a total postage discount of 5%.

Eligibility and Requirements

USPS Integrated Technology Promotion offers a postage discount for integrating digital tech with direct mail.To qualify, your direct mail campaigns must include at least one approved technology. There’s a wide range of technologies to choose from, including:
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI): Use AI tools to generate copy or images for your mail pieces. Ensure you document the AI prompts and outputs for program approval.
  • Voice Assistant Integration: Include clear voice commands that activate specific actions, such as visiting your e-commerce site or learning more about a product.
  • Mobile Shopping: Include QR codes or other triggers that lead to mobile-optimized shopping experiences where users can make purchases.
  • Near Field Communication (NFC): Embed NFC chips into your mail to trigger actions like website launches or video playback.
  • Augmented Reality (AR): Create interactive 3D experiences. For example, a QR code on your mailer could allow customers to visualize furniture in their home.
  • Virtual Reality (VR): Deliver fully immersive experiences via goggles or headsets, perfect for showcasing new product features or virtual store tours.
  • Video in Print: Incorporate video screens, translucent video overlays, or shoppable videos directly into your mailer.
  • Mixed Reality (MR): Use headsets or goggles to blend physical and virtual spaces, such as overlaying product information onto a real-world environment.
Your integrated technology campaign can run for up to six consecutive months. Not only can you choose your own 6-month period, but you also have the option to change the technology you use with each campaign. (Of course you can use the same tech throughout all 6 months if you prefer.)

Eligible mail types include:

  • USPS Marketing Mail letters and flats
  • Nonprofit USPS Marketing Mail letters and flats
  • First-Class Mail letters, cards, and flats

  • Registration is underway NOW and ends December 31, 2025
  • Promotion Period: January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025

Your Next Steps

The first step to capitalizing on the USPS Integrated Technology Promotion is working with your direct mail provider to submit samples of your mail pieces for USPS approval. This will ensure your technology meets the criteria to receive the postage discount. Next, you need to enroll in the promotion through the USPS Business Customer Gateway. The enrollment process asks for details on your chosen technology and overall campaign and also requires you to create a CRID (Customer Registration ID).
